Rance wuz here...

NOTE TO RIK...YES YOU: PLEASE SEND YOUR PIECE IN. WE WILL PUT IT UP ON MONDAY.

NOTE TO ALL RANCE READERS: AS OF LATE I HAVE SURFED THE WEB LOOKING FOR THE BEST OF THE BEST, BLOGGERS THAT IS. ON MONDAY WE WILL HAVE A GUEST BLOGGIST. HIS NAME IS RIK. HE IS ACROSS THE POND. I'M SURE YOU'LL FIND HIM TERRIBLY WITTY

HUGH GRANT

Hugh Grant, I'm sure much to his disdain, is sexy. He's rather ordinary looking, but his wit and intellect are magnetic. He comes across as extremely unavailable and mysterious.

However, as of late, Mr. Grant seems thoroughly disenchanted with everything and everybody. Using my C.J.D., I diagnose Mr. Grant as: MISERABLE.

What makes him miserable? Lack of purpose.

He appears to be completely bored with life. No one or thing interests him. He's been there and done it all.

This morning on Regis and Kelly, unless my ears deceived me, he called Regis a bitch. Yes, his wit is dryer than the Sahara, but I honest to goodness don't think he was joking. The sad thing is, no matter what he says, people laugh, which makes him all the more disenchanted. To him, they're no more than clapping monkeys.

I was told that Liz Hurley, after their break-up, said that nothing she did ever impressed him, not even her looks.

I don't know what you're looking for Mr. Grant, but may I propose a suggestion? Get a purpose.

Hey RDD,
I love it that you are here running the site. And, I'm sure it gives R a nice break from all the work. Hopefully, you're enjoying it too. Here I found a funny Hugh Grant article by Dave Barry. He compares the difference between a man a woman's definition of "sense of humor", using Hugh Grant and The Three Stooges to highlight the distinction. I find Hugh very funny. Have you seen About a Boy? Great movie. It's about levity and shallowness, and their significance to sanity. (So true.) And the little boy was great too.

Well, that's my small contribution for the day. It's nothing like Rance's "contribution", but I can't really compete with that now can I? Looking forward to more interesting topics from you, and the occassional inappropriate comment from Rance. What would this place be without that?

Have a great weekend all, and try to stay out of the police log.

I am enjoying it...it's just my concern that I'm single handedly ruining his blog.

I've never seen a movie with Hugh Grant that I didn't like. His acting appears effortless, which makes him most believable...And yes, I enjoyed "About A Boy"...Shake your ass, show me what you're workin' with...

You're right! He should find a purpose. I find Hugh extremely sexy, but if a man never complemented me or noticed anything new when I changed something, I would be disenchanted also!

Maybe there's something in the air. I've been feeling a bit disenfranchised and wrote a long-winded post about needing a purpose in life that didn't involve the strangulation of certain individuals or the desire to knock sense into others.

But I agree, I saw him on Oprah (I came home early from work once) and he looked constipated. I mean in a way the Brits don't usually look constipated.

meh....people that rich and good looking who are completely disaffected bore the hell out of me. maybe it's because I went to school with them, or their children. lately I've been visiting various local Goodwills and it's just so tremendously gratifying to see people with disabilities, in some cases severe disabilities, so full of joy and life and so happy to be a productive part of society. it really makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside that I get to work with/for such an amazing organization. in fact, while I'm home next week I'm going to visit the New York Goodwill to see their operation. if someone needs to find a purpose in life, they should spend time with people like our Goodwill clients. talk about life affirming.

but that's just me...

I love my local Goodwill and they love to see me drive up, cause usually I had a huge load of stuff to donate and they're just so darn nice!

I had the chance of working with/around Hugh Grant when I was a lowly intern, and I have to say that he was always delightfully down-to-earth, consistently considerate (even to interns) and generally fun to be around. (His PA, who talked too much to people he didn't know very well, only confirmed my opinion). Hugh Grant showed me that people in this industry can still remain human. That's more than any purpose-driven jerk can do. All my best to Mr. Grant, and I hope to work with him again one day.

Hmmmmm...well can you explain why he always appears so pissed and aloof in interviews?

Thank you for sharing your experience with us, because as we all know, things are not always as they appear and it is only fair for Mr. Grant to be represented in this discussion.

As I said earlier, I've always enjoyed his work.

Sincerely,

RDD

just heard a great line "kiss it, spank it, make it sing like a gypsy violin..." oh the visuals that brought to mind.
where's hugh when you need him?

hope everybody has a great weekend. somebody asked the other day what people were doing on this pre-holiday weekend. an honest answer, getting drunk and getting some.

kisshugs, everybody!

I believe that Mr. Grant seems pissed off and aloof during interviews because he is extremely uncomfortable with them..He's one of those nervous "I hate being interviewed" actors..If you watch him on his stint on In the Actor's Studio he seems nervous and uncomfortable, and yet funny..he gets really uncomfortable when James Lipton compares him to Cary Grant..he just looks like it's killing him to be fanned like a god..much the same way that Johnny Depp or Val Kilmer, or Viggo Mortenson hate being interviewed and gaga'd and googoo'd over...And they're all gentlemen in their forties, they've run the course for enough years to know that anything and everything a "journalist" says or asks is BS... (Hugh has also said in the last few years that he doesn't really enjoy acting, that it's a struggle because he thinks he's terrible at it, I think the whole concept of being a "celebrity" it something that he's grown to dislike and dread, especially when doing fluff interviews like Regis and Kelly and Oprah.

They're problem is also that they haven't met me...They could almost be my dad's (age wise) and yet, I want to have their babies.

Hugh's problem is as Liz Hurley once said, "Oh he's Hughish" It's like being Jewish but British instead.

Escondido, Ca. The only problem I ever had was that this particular store is somewhat small and they don't accept beds and large furniture, so I had to donate the stuff I had to the Salvation Army.

Are you sure your talking about Hugh Grant or me? Sometimes I feel like I have no purpose. With the pressures, mandates, business of life...one could get quite miserable...wait a minute back to Hugh, I found it strange that when he was with Liz he had the prostitute thing going on. Maybe all of his oars aren't in the water...

people who appear aloof and pissed may just be uncomfortable with all the attention and not know how to handle it in a different way. some people like the lights and others don't.

Single-handedly ruining this blog? Nonsense. If Rance hasn't managed to achieve that so far, I doubt you'll have much luck. But, if you're looking for tips, I refer you to the likes of Rance's "Asian Men in a Basket" story. He gave it a gallant effort, but we're still here. Anyhow, the reality appears, you are single-handedly keeping this blog afloat. If there are those who cannot seem to appreciate that, I doubt they have much to contribute in the first place. Good riddance. But, the advantage you do have going for you which Rance did not, is simply the fact that you are able to speak. Indeed. We like that. Now, we can discuss anything... Fuck the South, Help my Husband Won't Put Out, Post your Favorite Waldorf Salad Recipes. Whatever. It's funner when you can actually speak. Really.

I recently started checking out this blog again.
Last I was here was this summer.
So Rance doesn't write here anymore?
Is he a celebrity or isn't he? Has that ever been determined?

Basically I'm too lazy to catch up on the reading here.
I'm too used to Livejournal's format and again too lazy to try and adjust to this one.

Okay, I get it.
Turns out I didn't have to read too much to figure out that RD is taking over for R.
Anyway, totally not on the subject of Hugh, so here goes.

What exactly makes Hollywood tick, Rance?
I've always thought Hollywood was a bit like high school and being a teenager all over again.
Think about high school.
Aside from being an adolescent trying to figure out who you are....no matter how cool or gorgeous you were, everyone had to have suffered from moments of insecurity and the whole "what do people think of me?" thoughts.

That's what I think about Hollywood and celebrities.
The fact that you won't reveal who you are shows that maybe you're worried what your colleagues would think of you? I do understand the issue of privacy.

Do you enjoy the life you lead?
Do you feel you have to prove yourself to Hollywood and the public all the time?
If so, how stressful is it?

I happen to be a teacher and a mother.
Those two things are heaven on earth for me.
What is heaven on earth for you?

While I did enjoy my high school experience (even though I was a proud "band nerd") I wouldn't want to relive it over.

Does anything I said make ANY sense at all? LOL..
Anyway...
Enjoy your holiday.

Hi, I live in Australia and just read an old article that referred me to your website. It's said that your 'suppose' to be a celebrity that secretly voices his opinion?odd but interesting. Cheers, Heather.

I think Hugh Grant is absolutely perfect the way he is. I wouldn't want people messing with my head and game with comments like that. MYOB.

I reckon the reason Hugh appears to be bored and aloof in interviews is that typical 'I'm not comfortable' kind of thing. Also the British thing does come into play - stiff upper lip and all that. I guess us Brits are just not so 'open' as the Americans, we don't analyse everything we say or do....visits to the shrink are few and far between (unless proably like Hugh you can afford it). Also he's trying to avoid the press currently as his liaisons with Jemima have not gone unnoticed. Shame I think, he has a right to his privacy.

Just my thoughts.
