Rance's Identity
It appears that an innocent fellow has fell victim in the quest to discover Rance's identity. Lance Mazmanian, while being supremely talented and funny to boot, is not Rance. For those of you harassing him with emails threatening to out him he says, and I quote "Lemme make this clear: I ain't Rance so you just go and 'out' all you want." In the meantime, he'll be enjoying a double espresso...

I would be remiss if I didn't provide a link to allow you to bathe in the talents of Mr. Mazmanian and an opportunity for his accosters to read the message he personally prepared for them. Click here...

Again, read my words...Lance Mazmanian is not Rance.

There you have it! One down and ten million to go until Rance is unmasked. Keep on truckin...you got allota highway to cover.

P.S. Would someone with some computer tech. experience please tell me how to turn this flippin music off? Thanks...

turn off what music? BTW, Lance is cool. But I am so glad that you posted this entry, cause that means I'll be on topic.

I was on mr. carlisle's blog today: http://mrcarlisle.mindsay.com and i have always felt he was rance. there are a number of reasons.

BUT- the greatest reason so far seems to be.... he never posts on weekends. he is like the reincarnation of Rance.

Plus he is so smart and intelligent that it hurts.

And plus he is a dog and rance has lots of animal friends, birds, etc.

Can we safely assume it's a possibility that Mr. Carlisle could be Rance.

I mean lots of people don't care and i find that I may never know, but it's worth investigating.

I vote for Keith Thomson, Gus Openshaw's front man on his new book. There was some pretty fancy detective work out there connecting Keith to Rance several months ago, now he's connected to Gus as well. Things that make you go HMMMM!

I agree. A lot of people want to separate them, but they are the same.

Sorry, Lance. This is a low sympathy/no sympathy forum. Didn't anyone tell you that? Any personal grievances should be directed to your mother, or anyone else who is willing to pretend they care. Otherwise, we reserve all sympathy and compassion for the truly deserving... the rich. Rance, are you okay? We're so sorry they're harassing someone with a name that rhymes with yours. It must be horrible for you. *Phew*. He had us worried there for a minute.

Ahhhh, but if you'll go back and read at the very beginningnof the blog Rance spoke of his friend, captainhoof, and how captainhoof had been so kind as to set up the blog for him and assist him with his lack of computer knowledge...are they really inseparable?

This morning on a local LA radio station, a listener called in. Boy, that voice sounded familiar....hmmmmm....the callers name was "Duckie".

Really...now who, exactly, did duckie sound like?

are you sure it's music and not voices you're hearing, rdd? i mean, driving this blog could make anybody batty, we're such a "normal" bunch here. but i think there's this knob on your speakers, if you turn it to "o", you should be o.k. (lol).

kidding aside, this is the first i've even heard of lance, gonna hafta check him out. personally, i'm hoping rance turns out to be keifer, i just love that man's voice, and thanks to the powers that be, 24 is back on.

kisshugs to all. rdd, sorry i'm not a tech, can't help, only have a sick sense of humor. please know i'm joking.

You know feenxc, I think you're probably right on target. The music has mysteriously disappeared. (I believe I later discovered that it could be attributed to another window I had open at the time. Computer savy I am not. I just thank God that is stopped!)

If you?re not Mr. Ripley himself I rather not to know who you are. This virtual identity is great, complete in itself - so Keep it up then. right up.

Well, I've never much concerned myself with the whole "who is Rance?" issue, but it does seem more and more likely that Rance = Gus = Keith Thomson. I think many of us have long suspected the Rance = Gus angle, and reading some of the stuff mentioned on Lance's site seems to confirm the Thomson connection. Regardless, it seems like a moot point...and like I said, it never mattered to me anyway. Good reading is good reading.

Are you saying that Keith T. is captainhoof?

Evidently Lance simply played this blog to get himself some publicity.

I rather think there may simply be many personalities of Keith T.

But honestly, I don't care. I don't care who Rance is, he/she/it is ... er, was... a highly entertaining writer.

I mean, I never thought Gus Openshaw was really a one armed obsessed whaler out for vengeance, but that doesn't mean I enjoyed reading his blog any less.

Rance could be Ben Affleck, George Clooney, Queen Elizabeth, George W or the kid next door, I wouldn't love 'em any less.

Ok, so maybe if he turned out to be George W I'd be a bit disturbed...

Yes Einstein, I figured as much, but my initial conclusion was that the music was being played from this web page, hence everyone who viewed it would hear it and that would be a nuisance. I look for long-term solutions, not temporary fixes.

Holy mackeral. I am gone for almost a year and look what happens to the place. The thing I don't understand is why anyone would hate Rance. Do they have issues? I would imagine so....

I think the few spoil it for the masses. The masses like Rance.

Rance has never written in an egotistical manner, so he's definitely not Lance...whoever thought so must be high.

Besides, we all know that Rance dates women, not espresso.

On a side note, the picture of Lance on his own website reminds me of this picture frame that used to be sold at Wal-mart. You know those fake pictures they put in frames so that you can size up what your pictures will look like in them...or have a fake family...Anway, the pic was of this hairless less then one year old baby, wearing a turtle neck while making this very grownup intellectual face, funniest thing I've ever seen..

I can imagine the photographer saying to the baby: "Give me more, you're 32, you read Variety every week, you drink carmel breves and eat sushi every third day,..Your favorite book is War and Remembrance even though you've never actually finished it..You've seen The Seventh Seal twenty times and you're this close to knowing Kevin Spacey..."

Thanks to Lance, I remembered my favorite picture...damn that baby is funny.

RDD - if you have the music problem again from any web page that you open, you can use the icons on the start bar at the bottom right of your window to turn it off... (there's a speaker icon that will mute the background music).

As for the debate regarding Rance's true identity... the whole point of pseudonym is that we don't know who he is. Whether he's a genuine celeb, or an awkward teenager with no social life and one helluva imagination is irrelevent... you either like what you read or you don't. And if you don't, then exercise your rights not to read it!!! Also, by NOT knowing who Rance is, there's no disappointment - everyone has their own idea of who he is (whether it's their fave celeb or just a relatively normal person) so why ruin the illusion with truth??? Reality will never be better than fantasy! Who's to say any of us are who we say we are... we might all be celebrities, we might all be social misfits, or we might just be normal... and no-one will ever know.

Keep up the good work RDD. I'm enjoying the site as much as I did when Rance ranted on it!

Gnomie.

I can't believe it's been more than a year already. Insert obligatory Grateful Dead quote here (no, not "Mississippi Uptown Half-Step Toodleoo," the other one).

why do I get the feeling that Rance could unmask him- or herself and we'd still say, "Nahhhh, I'll bet it's really Sean Astin." I still think it's Tom Brady....and may I just say now, if it is, my condolences on your upcoming loss this weekend to Peyton and the Colts. ;)

Well look, I haven't been on this blog for quite a while, and now I'm confused; the guy blogging now refers to Rance in the third-person, so who IS the new blogger? Where's Rance?
