Rance wuz here...
Friday, 7 January 2005
Yo Ho Ho...
It seems our good friend Gus has risen in rank...from the Bilge to the Poop Deck. During his perilous adventures at sea and with only one arm, mind you, he and his questionable friend Nelson have managed to write a book. Not only did they write a book, Nelson bribed someone to publish it.

Since I like Gus so much, and feel a wee bit guilty about all the hand cracks I've made, I have decided to choose his book as the FIRST book ever in the Rubber Duckie Book Club.

You can check out the book here:
Pirates of Pensacola

It would be great if we all preordered it for two reasons:

a: We would all receive the book at the same time, which would allow us all to begin on the same page, so to speak.

b: The advanced sales would be a nice gift to Gus. We've all enjoyed his stories for months now for free. It would be nice to do something for him in return.

I would also like to address the lurkers. Please feel free to step out from the shadows and join the fray.

If you're unfamiliar with Gus and would like to know more about him click here.

Congratulations to Capt. Openshaw. I look forward to each of his installments. 320 pages at one time is like getting the keys to the ice cream store.

I don't know where he found the time, between all of those scrimshaws, his blog, and that damned-but-now-reformed Blubbery Bastard. Quite the multi-tasker is our Gus. I can feel a hand crack coming on, so I'll quit while I'm ahead...

Figures. I had dibs on Rance's first autographed book, and now he's depixeled and it is Gus who does the late-night scribbling and gets published. Is it too late to transfer my dibs to Gus?

Since last I've posted here I've acquired a rakish bandana and razor-sharp cutlass and become quite the libertine waxwing, full of piratey prescence. I wonder if there is an opening on the crow's nest? Or I could play a pirate's parrot better than most, too.

I think you'd make a positively perfect pirate.

Thanks for passing it along, Rubber Duckie. It sounds like perfect summer reading. Richard Zacks, who wrote one of the reviews on Amazon, is one of my favorite authors. His book on Captain Kidd is the best maritime reads in recent memory. Captain Openshaw is fortunate to have him aboard!

Whoo-hoo!

Or, should I say Arrr!

If the book is being released on April Fools Day, maybe the movie can be released on September 19, "Talk Like a Pirate Day."

AAAaaaaarrrrrrrrr would be the correct term.
April Fool's Day? Hahha. I hadn't noticed that.
NOW that's funny.
Trillian, do you have any pull with Tripod?
It isn't the easiest system to work with.

Everyone repeat after me "ARRRRRRRR!" a la Johnny Depp.

Takes me back to the time my pretentious former manager said to a drunken air steward in a bar "Have you seen Pedro Amaldovar's latest spanish film Talk to Her", upon which he growled "No, but I've seen the pirate one, it was crap" Popular myth says that there was an ARRRRRR at the end of his statement, but it that may have been added for storytelling purposes.

Well done Gus, a great achievement to be published.

Waxwing,
A book autographed by Gus may be just as good as one autographed by Rance. Appears the two may be connected in ways we hadn't imagined. Check this out.

Sorry, Sass, despite any name similarities, I got nothin.

I may be able to talk my computer into doing most things I want it to, but other peoples' problems... er, programs... not so much.
