Rance wuz here...
Tuesday, 28 December 2004
Guest bloggist, The VW
Now that I've got your attention, what am I going to say? Who is Rance? Or for that matter, what is Rance? Am I Rance? I could be, or maybe not, but then again, does it really matter?

I've met Rance. Didn't you get the invite? He threw a huge party down at Denny's. Everyone was there, the waitress, the cashier, the cook, the manager, Rance, me, myself, and I. He came bearing gifts, an area rug for my mouse. That was a buck fifty well spent. We both agreed your time would be better spent writing to someone who actually read what you wrote. A suggestion: My Soldier

Sorry you missed the party. It was swanky.

Toodles,

The VW

my sister has a friend who's home from Iraq. our sobering thought for the holidays....Mike used to frequent the tent that got bombed recently all the time when he was stationed in Mosul (thankfully he's not slated to return to Iraq until February '06). want to get even more weireded out? my sister and I met up with him at the Twin Towers, the last time we were there, two months before 9/11. for some reason these things are giving me pause today...

anyhoo, thanks for the link....I'll drop a line to a soldier or two.... hopefully he'll be a Duke fan like me, or even better, a Carolina fan, so we can bash each other's respective teams in spirited correspondence. that's always fun! :)

Mine too. It must have been a decoy. Were you the cool guy sitting in the corner booth eating the sirloin tips with mushroom gravy?

Dammit, my husband and I went to Red Lobster. On the other hand, the Ultimate Feast was swell, as always. Mmmmm, shrimp and crab.

The lady across from us was wearing a gold lame' blouse and was older than God's great-great-great-auntie. Whoever let her dress herself should be taken out by the dumpster and smacked around a little; that's a little too much fashion-forward festive to let loose at one time in the Midwest.

Then the "do not exit unless in case of fire, alarm will sound" buzzer went off behind us, and we checked to see if Mrs. Ancient-of-Days Goldilocks was doing a dine 'n dash in her fetching little white fur moonboots, but she was still contentedly cracking crab and brushing bits of shell off of her (shiny!) shirt. Now that's a classy night out in the trackless wastes of suburbia for you. As diversions go, it was more fun than a "Detour - Snow Drifts On Road" sign.

Ah, for the good old times, when I used to check for updates and new comments here obsessively. I do understand that the obligations of an International Blogger of Mystery eventually had to take precedence. Really, I do. But I miss Vat Chat and bad Latin jokes and glam anecdotes about El Lay slebs and such.

Happy bloggoversary, Rance, where-ever you are.

Holy moon boots! That's right, it is Rance's one year Anniversary..I can't believe he made it this far..I thought he'd be arrested for indecent exposure while driving a golf cart or something like that by now..

But no, you made it thru a year buddy. Good job! You didn't get arrested (I hope), nor did you look back in regret, wishing that you had peed on your girlfriends car when she left you last New Years...I bet she has her own regrets now, the little tart. Her loss, your gain. Well, I hope you can spend this New Year's in bliss, with a beer in one hand and a sweetheart in the other. And thanks for not closing shop here in Ranceland, we appreciate having a place to come and chat with like minded crazies.

Happy New Year to everybody (that's in case I can't make it back here before then)!! And Happy One Year To The blog!! May it live to be at least 1 year and two months, if not more.

VW, the My Soldier program is a great idea. I wrote to someone until he came home. He said it really meant something to him. People get depressed the longer they stay over there. Showing your support and just having normal interaction really does help morale. My soldier didn't necessarily want to talk about anything serious, he just wanted a nice American to chat with. They get homesick, surrounded by all things foreign. I recommend it, and it was fun, too.

VW, thanks for making your guest spot so much easier to read than your entry... my eyes still cross every time I try to read it.

Oh, and nice way to promote a good cause.

Uhm.... how 'bout let's not. We've gotten along thus far without your contribution. And given what you've just told us, I can't imagine that you would have anything to say that we'd want to hear.

Happy New Year!
