Pirates of Pensacola, Chapters 4, 5 & 6
1. Anybody here ever attended a Dale Carnegie Class before? I have...see below...no kidding...really. I just wondered, was anyone else's a big crying, drama fest as well?
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

2. What do you think motivated Herb to bombard Morgan with "quotes of the day"? Do you honestly think Herb lived by them as well???? Seriously. This aspect of the book has puzzled me. Keith, some insight here would be appreciated.

3. You're in heavy traffic going nowhere fast. The person in front of you zones out, falling behind the "flow of traffic", preventing you from moving your rightful 10 feet forward. Do you honk or patiently wait for him to get a clue? If you wait, do you curse him aloud in the seclusion of your car or sit in silence?

4. Have you ever dated a guy with an earring? If male, have you ever wore an earring?

5. Have you ever believed someone to be plum nuts, only to find out later they were telling the truth? If so, share. It distorts your perception of reality, does it not?

6. Scrimshaws for Chapters 4, 5 and 6 are now being accepted. I must say, this is something I look forward to every time. The entries have been amazing. Please keep them coming. The deadline is Thursday, 9:00 a.m. The more, the better. For now, here's mine...

Scrimshaws for Chapters 2 & 3 of Pirates of Pensacola, and if I do say so, you girls outdid yourselves...Fantastic Job!
First, to labs. I will admit, I did not know what an aphorism was before. I had to look it up. We here in the South refer to them as "sayins".

First up is "Taco World" by WendyJo
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Second is Rancette's "School of Forbischer"
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Third is Grace's "Exhibit B"
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

And last, but certainly not least, is Labsnabys' "Bottle Cap"

OF NOTE: We will be doing Chapters 4, 5 & 6 tomorrow, Tuesday, April the whatever it is.

Thanks,
RDD

Pirates of Pensacola, by Keith Thomson Chapters 2 & 3
1. Please share with us a unique or frequently used aphorism within your own family. As for me and mine, well: "You're an adult, not a kid, hit the toilet, not the lid."

2. Use the words Forbischer and fun in the same sentence, holding true to the idea that Forbischer isn't fun.

3. What were you doing in 1989?

4. Morgan's rent was $600.00 in 1992. What was the dollar sign of the rent for your first real pad? We want details....who, what, when, where, how and why.

5.Have you ever seen the likeness of the Virgin Mary? If so, where?

6. Do you suppose Morgan bought the ship model already put together, or did he do it himself?

7. Morgan's mental tick is compulsively crunching numbers, obviously a habit of the trade and not genetic. Do you have a mental tick? I'll share mine later.

8. Morgan apparently has a penchant for the scent of _____________________.

9. Anyone have a favorite line so far? If so, which one?

10. Scrimshaw submissions on Chapters 2 and 3 are now being accepted. Please email them to rubberdeeduckie@yahoo.com. The deadline is Thursday, April 21st at 9:00 p.m. CST. For now, here's mine...

11. Any questions, thoughts, or observations on Chapters 2 or 3, please share them with us now.

Don't Forget the 7:00 p.m. CST Deadline Tonight for Scrimshaws Pertaining to Prologue and Chapter 1
Throughout our reading of Pirates Of Pensacola there will be trivia questions and scrimshaw challenges and sharing of personal stories relating to Keith's tale. Along the way, I will be keeping track of the participants, the correct answers and last, but not least, your submitted scrimshaws.

I mentioned a handsome reward yesterday and I am here to provide the details...Up for grabs? An original Keith Thomson scrimshaw of the winner's choosing, inscribed, signed and dated by Keith, and sent directly to YOU, the winner or winners, as it may be. So be sure and grab your copy of Pirates of Pensacola at the nearest bookstore or via www.amazon.com.

Sincerely,
RDD

Rubber Duckie's Book Club, now featuring Pirates of Pensacola by Keith Thomson

Pirates of Pensacola by Keith Thomson

Anything goes for discussion here as long as it pertains to the Prologue and Chapter 1. If you have a question for Keith type it on up and hopefully he'll be around to answer it.

To start things off, I have a few points of discussion myself.

1. You've received an invitation to the fifty-eighth annual Costume Ball at the Shore Havens Yacht Club. Who or what will you be?

2. Do you think the punch at the club was spiked? If so, which guest do you believe was most likely the culprit?

3. Question for Keith: Do you throw sidearm?

4. In today's reading assignment there's a scene which could be construed as symbolic, maybe even prophetic, when you consider the source (Keith) and his future writing endeavors. Do you know which scene I'm referring to? If you're not familiar with Keith's other writings, here's a clue... a "similar scene" is played out in De bijbel.

5. As a kid, the parking lot lines were balance beams to me. I would walk, stand on my hands and do cartwheels, practicing for my future reign as the next Nadia Comaneci. Am I the only one? Did anyone else out there have a unique or unusual use for parking lot lines? If so, please share.

6. Morgan inherited something from his father, perhaps unwittingly so. 10 DVP points for the first person to give me the correct answer.

7. Am I the only person who wonders why there are so many handicap parking spots and why they most always are empty and why the closest able-bodied spots are always full and more often than not, occupied by a car with handicap tags?

SCRIMSHAW CONTEST
Please take the time to draw, no matter how simple or archaic, the most vivid image in your mind conjured up from the Prologue and Chapter 1. Either do them in paint and email them to me at rubberdeeduckie@yahoo.com, or draw them on paper, scan them, and email them to me at rubberdeeduckie@yahoo.com. This is not about art, or drawing, but personal vision and sheer entertainment value. Please participate. All entries will be posted on the front page. Deadline for submission is tomorrow evening, Friday, at 7:00 p.m.CST. I can't wait. For inspiration, here's mine. What is it, exactly...

8. Morgan being left eternally in the oceanside arcade parking lot conjured up a frightening image from my childhood which I will share later. As a child, were any of you ever forgotten by your parents or were they way late in picking you up? Please dish all the juicy details.

9. And last, but not least, if you have a topic or issue or your own trivia question from today's reading material, please post it. The more, the better.

(As extra incentive, for some of the participation questions, there may be a handsome reward, so be sure and participate!)

The Book Club
Now that Wendyjo has her book it's time to begin. Our first session will be Thursday, April 13th. I intend to do it chapter by chapter, with an open forum discussion, including questions for the author. At present, there are no rules. Pretty much anything goes. The only request is that you limit your questions to the present day's discussion, i.e. Chapter 1 or whatever.

Simple enough. Right? Now get to reading.

The Book? Of course! The Book!

Pirates of Pensacola

If you don't have it, get it. You can order it online at Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble or buy it at your local bookstore.

Please read Chapters 1 AND 2 for Thursday, just in case.

See you then.

All ideas, suggestions, and input are welcome as to how we conduct ourselves in the future. You can email them to me at rubberdeeduckie@yahoo.com. For now, as waxwing might say, we'll "wing it".

The Native are Getting Restless, pardon my political incorrectness
I also dig Indian mascots.

I have almost finished my first leg of the story. You must be patient with me. I wasn't born a writer and it's all a little overwhelming. I don't want to disappoint.

RDD asked me to ask you if you all had received your Pirates of Pensacola book yet, specifically WendyJo as RDD will still be overseeing the book club.

Did anyone ever tell you I resembled the sketch of the person of interest?

Ahem, testing, testing
Unfortunately, Rubber Duckie has been involved in a bit of a car accident this afternoon. No major injuries, however, she did suffer a bump on the noggin that appears to be creating what the doctors assure us is only a temporary case of amnesia.

I have taken it upon myself to stand in for Rubber Duckie for one reason, and one reason only. To finish the flocking story. You will have closure. RDD, bless her heart, although witty and somewhat intelligent, has her shortcomings. Finishing this story, among other things, is one of them.

I will succeed where all others have failed. I will tell the story.

Peace to the good. Torment to the Evil.

So,
I've been living the lifestyle of a do nothing for approximately two days now. I must say, I think I'm getting the hang of it. I woke up this a.m. around 9:00, promptly rolled over and went back to sleep.

At around 10:00 I woke up and decided to take a steam bath, enjoying it for every bit of 30 minutes. I toweled off and felt the need to lay down again from the exertion. I grabbed the remote, slowly flipping, looking for the channel that would require the minimalest of mental participation on my part. I settled on FOX news.

I noticed where a new season of The Surreal Life begins soon. Sort of a pseudo problem there. It airs on VH1, my cable doesn't carry VH1. What's a do nothing to do about that? Any suggestions? Please keep in mind that there are rules.

Sincerely,

The Dude
